Twenty years ago Nando’s set up in South Africa, selling their delicious, mouth-and-eye-watering Peri-Peri chicken. They now boast over 750 restaurants worldwide, including 190 in the UK alone. The secret to Nando’s success (apart from a lot of hard work and intelligence) is the African Birds Eye Chilli – a harmless-looking little fella that kicks like a mule. Nando’s blended this fiery chilli with garlic, lemon and spices to create their famous Peri-Peri sauce – a sauce so nice we took it out of the restaurants and put it onto the supermarket shelves.
